The Building Code Part 3, Special Requirements
Certain types of buildings have special requirements unique to them such as covered malls, hIgh rise buildings, atriums, underground buildings, and stages. These requirements are above and beyond the requirements listed in the other parts of the building code. In the International Building Code, Special Requirement for occupancies are listed in Section 4.
For example when calculating the number of occupants in a building typically you would use the requirements listed in Section 10 Means of Egress. But covered malls have different requirements for calculating the number of occupants that is found in Section 4. I wouldn’t get to worried about this section of the building code while studying for the ARE, but it would be worth looking over.
Good luck on your next exam!
